Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and SCCM deployment

$

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but the "contact us for help" options just kept sending me to the same page over and over again.

I recently jumped through all the hoops attempting to push Adobe Acrobat Pro DC through our SCCM server and have run into several issues.  For one, it will not actually call the Acrobat Pro installation to put it onto the computer.  It does however show that it is "installed" when you log into the cloud on said PC.  Has anyone had issues with this before?

We are running SCCM version 1511.  Thank you very much.

How to Remove All First Run Prompts for Adobe Reader DC

Hi,

I'm deploying Windows 10 images this summer to classroom and lab computers. Unlike every other modern operating system available today, Windows 10 does not offer native PDF capability. We're specifically rolling-out the LTSB version of Windows 10 for privacy concerns, which does not include the Edge web browser. As a result of this, I have built Adobe Reader DC into the image along with many other software titles.

Each time a user logs into Windows, they're doing so for the first time. Per policy, all user profiles stored on public computers must be removed at the end of that user's session. Everyone who uses these PCs is doing so for the first time. As a result, when Reader is opened, the user is bombarded with an onslaught of first-run dialogs and prompts that exceeds all patients. There are those for choosing the default PDF handler, determine the accessibility settings, and the UI's color scheme. All of these items placed into a first-run experience are asinine for a user profile that would persist on the file system, let alone for one that is created and removed every time someone logs into Windows.

When I created the image, I answered ALL of these first-run questions for the default user's profile prior to copying that profile with sysprep. To help ensure these insidious little annoyances do not appear ever again, I added the ADMX GPO template files to our central store in our domain, and configured the desired settings. To silence the PDF handler question, that STILL appears, I created a custom registry key and deployed it with a GPO to prevent this question from ever being asked again. ALL of these steps were for naught. Despite the customized default user profile, the GPO, and the registry changes, users are still spending close to five minutes answering Reader's inane first-run questions. Despite all of that, they still want Reader as their PDF viewer on Windows.

Aside from ranting, my question is there a resource, tutorial, website that details how to fix all of this? My users and I just need Reader to open when selected, or open when a PDF is double-clicked, no questions asked. I am positive that I am not the only one in this situation. If it makes any difference I use MDT 2013 U2 to deploy the images and IBM BigFix to manage patches for Adobe Reader DC and other products. I appreciate any advice or information anyone might have on this subject and apologize for the rant.

Thank you

We are having an issue with Acrobat DC Pro setup using Creative Cloud Teams. We are using a roamed named user license. The switches for the install used are below:

Setup.exe /sALL /msi ROAMIDENTITY=1 ROAMLICENSING=1

This is using an adobe supported configuration on an image with Citrix XenDesktops (also fully patched Windows 7 with newest Adobe Acobat DC Pro Continuous Build). Everything is working correctly (and well) when deployed to users except the spelling feature. When doing the compare feature, you will receive at times receive a "No dictionaries were found. Your installation might be corrupted." In addition when going to preferences and checking spelling you will receive the error as well. No languages are available after clicking add. Unfortunately, even though this is the only issue, it's a large issue for our Legal Team.

The issue is this install was done very cleanly on a sanitized image. So I'm looking to see if anyone else has seen this or steps we could use to hone in on the issue. Could it be a registry entry, files that aren't being referenced? Where should we be looking to fix this?

Chris

How to use Adobe Acrobat DC (Pro) as a OCR and translate to English?

I work in a company that regularly deals with a lot of multi-language based clients and there are times where we need to scan documents in other languages but due to the companies policy. We need to save the documents in English as well as their original language.

I discovered that Adobe Acrobat DC apparently has the ability to extract text from 'images' (The OCR part) but also has the ability to translate documents into English. However i couldn't really find any tutorials on how to do this and i'd like to know Acrobat has this functionality before we fork out thousands of pounds to purchases the licenses we need.

We deal with a variety of languages ranging from French to Arabic; i've found that although free software seems to do well with Latin based alphabet languages (French, Spanish etc.) when it comes to Languages which have different alphabets entirely (Mandarin, Arabic, Russian etc.) the software tends to be very hit and miss

Any help would be much appreciated

How to disable Adobe Reader Update

$

Hello,

I manage over 100 computers, distributing Adobe Reader (as exe, MSI behaves different so we don't use it, this is out of scope of this topic), the argument line for installation is:

/sAll /rs /l /msi /qb- /norestart DISABLE_ARM_SERVICE_INSTALL=1 DISABLEDESKTOPSHORTCUT=1 EULA_ACCEPT=YES

Also I have a GPO that disables all Adobe Reader related startup entrys (the one you see in msconfig) and it also disables every related Windows Service (namely "Adobe Acrobat Update Service" whichs starts ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\armsvc.exe" to update the Reader).

However, every now and then a symbol (+ popup message) appears in the tray bar harassing my users that "an update for Adobe Reader is ready".

How to COMPLETELY disable the update of Adobe Reader and suppress all related updates notifications?

Set AdobeReader DC as a default PDF reader for MAC in Adobe Customization Wizard

We have succeeded to make ADobeReader as a default PDF reader in Windows, but not in MAC.

We had an option (radio button), "Make Adobe the default PDF viewer",  to select  in Windows Wizard

Installation and setup — Acrobat Customization Wizard DC for Windows

However, we could not find such an option in MAC?

How can we make it in MAC?

DO yo have any script that can make it programmatically so that student's laptop are set automatically.

We need students to open PDF assignment documents in AdobeReaderDC to edit & digitally(e.g.privat-key, public key) sign them.

Thank you

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Construxor

PDF Ownership and Windows 10

ETK says LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP, OWNERSHIP_STATE, and IW_DEFAULT_VERB are deprecated for Windows 10.  I previously was using LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP=YES on Windows 10 and it was working fine, but now with Reader 2017 and Acrobat 2017 it's not.

Can I get some clarification on this?  I simply want to deploy Acrobat 2017 and not have it take over file associations or browser integration.

Prevent "Acrobat Reader isn't your default PDF viewer."

Hello together,

I want to deploy Adobe Reader DC 2017 in our company on Windows 10.

Is it possible to prevent the above pop-up message to be displayed?

I tried with no luck:

REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown" /v "bToggleFTE" /t REG_DWORD /f /d "1"

Disable "Create Custom Tool"

Hello together,

I realise it is possible to disable tools with the registry key [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\<product name>\<version>\FeatureLockDown\AcroApp\cDisabled]

However, I wasn't able to deactivate the "Create Custom Tool".

See also the screenshots.

Does somebody know how it is possible?

Kind regards,

Only allow to open files from specific directory

$

Hello,

we use Acrobat and Reader as part of creative cloud in our company. In one department we view .pdfs with linked .docm/.doc/.xlsm/.xlsx/.pdf - files, in all others we only have .pdf to .pdf links. To prevent maleware to spread through attached files, we disabled opening non-.pdf-files and only allowed it in the mentioned department and activated sandbox / protected mode.

As this is an severe security problem and our company was targeted by a virus using this leak, I would like to limit this. Best case would be allowing only word and excel to be opened and only files from the directory the mentioned department works in.

- I tried to set up a whitelist ("ProtectedModeWhitelistConfig.txt"), which only led to unexplainable behavior (links to other directories than the ones listed in the whitelist would work rather than the allowed ones; powerpoint would open, excel would not).

- I tried to make the directory (on a server) a trusted "internet" source, as recommended in a discussion in this forum by an adobe employee, which would not work

- I tried to make the directory a trusted source in the extended settings, which would not work either

Can anyone relate or help?

I really need this to be solved in order to close this security leak and I think there are others with the same / a similar  problem.

Thank you!

Hi,

We have recently installed adobe DC standard on 2 of our citrix servers. When a user tries to combine PDFs they're getting the error below. We've tried reinstalling the application and have added / removed the plugins for ms office, visual c++ is also installed on the servers. However when we give the user access to adobe XI standard they don't get this issue. Please can you advise what could be causing this issue and if this is a DC specific issue.

[Acrobat Reader DC] HKCU registry keys are not replicated for each user as for Adobe Reader

$

For Adobe Reader, all the registry keys which are added with the Adobe Customization Wizard are automatically added to each user. Unfortunately, it is not the same with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

They registry keys have to be stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate to be automatically added in the HKCU of the user at its first launch of the application. But they are stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\[RegistryHiveName]\Installer\Migrate, as we can see on the screenshot below:

reg.PNG

The problem is probably coming from one of the custom actions. The variable RegistryHiveName is not translated. I didn't make a lot of research, but waiting on a solution from Adobe, I made a PowerShell script which move the registry keys to the correct place:

Move-Item -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\`[RegistryHiveName`]\Installer\Migrate\*' -Destination 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate' -force

(PowerShell has to be executed in 32 Bits)

If Adobe can correct it in the next version, it would be nice !

"setup could not find Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 (x64) runtime on the machine. Without this, some application functionality will not work."

During the installation of Acrobat Standard DC 2015, if a greater version of Visual C++ Runtime (ex 12.0.41) is installed the following error is generated: "setup could not find Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 (x64) runtime on the machine. Without this, some application functionality will not work."

Seems that the AcroPro.msi has a custom action "CheckVCx64Runtime" that checks if Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 (x64) runtime version 12.0.21005 is installed on the machine. If I include the IGNOREVCRT64=1 property in the installation command line in order to avoid this error, but on the machine is installed a different version of Visual C++ Runtime, not 12.0.21005, the full functionality will be affected using this solution?

Acrobat Pro DC continuous App-V 5.1 - Start icon not being created

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 1703

Acrobat DC 2017.009.20058

App-V Sequencer 10.0.15063.0

(This same question has been posted in the App-V Support forums as well)

I've successfully created and deployed Adobe Reader DC with the only struggle being that I cannot get the "Check for Updates" option to go away in the Help menu even though I've set the "bUpdater" registry key to 0 when customizing the msi within the customization wizard.  (Since I just typed all that, any help with this would be nice too!)

My current issue is with Acrobat Pro DC.  When I package it using the App-V sequencer, all goes great, except during deployment via SCCM.  Even though the option (which was set within the Adobe Customization Wizard) is set to leave the start menu icon (I am in fact removing the desktop icon, which works) the Start Menu icon does not appear (in the Alphabetical list nor in Recently Added) although the Distiller icon does appear (which is fine).

I hit the Start button and type "Acrobat" and the program is found and can be launched and used without a problem, but isn't an acceptable method for our end users.

Anyone else having this same problem?

How to deploy Custom Tool to all users on a computer

$

Hello,

I am having an issue with Adobe DC where I create a Custom Tool and export it as the .AAUI file.

In Adobe XI I would copy the .AAUI file to the following folder and all the users on the computer would get the custom tool

C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat<version>\Acrobat\UICustomization\<language>\<anyname>.aaui

This will not work in Adobe DC even though the UICustomization folder exists.  When I copy the file directly to the users profile it does work (the user gets the custom tool), but I dont want to setup a process where I have to copy this file every time a new user logs into the computer.

My Question is - is there an easy way just to create a tool and give it to all the users on the computer without them having to import it manually?

Argh! this is making me pull out my hair (whats left)

Thanks

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Activation key not working after 10 years

$

I have the install file and activation key for Acrobat 9 Pro Extended that I have used for years, I just don't need more than the basics so I have not needed to upgrade.

So I recently installed on my Surface (Win10) and the key is not validating.

I have owned and used this same install and key for 10 years. Chat support was no use, they sent me here because it is an older product which they claim to no longer support.

Can someone help me understand why my code stopped working?

Thanks,

Jeff

I have installed Adobe Acrobat XI on 3 citrix servers but when attempting to open a pdf in acrobat the following error occurs:

Adobe Error 01-08-17.JPG

I followed instructions on another post and installed Adobe Application manager version 10 but the same error still occurs. What can I do to fix this issue?
